Over-voltage Protection

Over-voltage Protection in Amendment 2 (18th Edition)

From 28th September 2022 Over-voltage Protection is mandatory for all electrical installations in order to comply with Amendment 2 of the 18th Edition IET wiring regulations (BS7671).

Protection against transient over-voltages (SPD) is now a requirement for all installations. There are no exceptions permitted where over-voltage can cause; serious injury to, or loss of, human life, or cause the failure of a safety service (as defined in Part 2) or lead to significant financial or data loss.

Protection against transient over-voltage protection is also required for all other cases, unless the owner of the installation specifically opts out and accepts all the risks of excluding such protection.

Electrium SPDs fit into standard consumer units. There is no need for special units or special busbars or special processes. Electrium SPDs only use one way in the consumer unit and do not need a back up MCB. This provides more outgoing ways.
